History

  • 1947 Community members contribute money for the purchase 12 ½ acres of Jewett Park land from the Jewett Family to preserve the land and create Deerfield’s first public park. Jewett Park Association was born.
  • 1955 Fieldhouse built
  • 1964 First Family Day celebration
  • 1987 First Halloween Hoopla celebration
  • 1996 Local teens approached the board requesting a place to in-line skate and roller blade
  • 1997 Vote to build a Skate Park in Jewett Park
  • 1998 Received a State of Illinois grant of $35,000 to build skate park and skate park dedication
  • 2001 New backstops installed
  • 2004 Renovation of the north end Jewett Park
  • 2005 Replacement of major play components of the Preschool Playground
  • 2006 Shade shelters installed over dugouts at Jewett Park
  • 2008 New electronic scoreboards installed
  • 2009 New playground equipment installed for the Jewett Park Playground west of the Preschool Playground adjacent to the Community Center
  • 2013 Intergovernmental agreement between the park district, library and village for a walkway in Jewett Park
  • 2018 Jewett Park 2.0 Master Planning and Phased Development Plan created and Jewett Park Preschool Playground renovated
  • 2019 Jewett Park 2.0 Phase 1 of 2 begins with the demolition and renoation of the skate park, revamping and expansion of the south parking lot, regrading of the ball fields and relocation of the Veteran's Memorial
