Introduction to Beekeeping Virtual Workshop

February 24, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Do you want to learn more about bee keeping? If so, this is the perfect workshop for you. This workshop will provide a brief history of Apis Mellifera, our local honeybees and the value of having bees as pollinators. This is the perfect workshop for those wanting to learn the basics of beekeeping, what a beekeeper does, what bees provide for us, clothing, tools, and hive equipment required to be a beekeeper, where and when to purchase bees, how to get honey from the comb, honey variations and the reason there some differences in color and taste. All participants will also receive a free sample of honey that can be picked up the Jewett Park Community Center prior to the workshop.

This is a virtual workshop. Once registered you will be sent a Zoom link to use for the workshop. The workshop will be taught by Frank Moriarty, President of the Lake County Bee Association.

The Deerfield Park District will be starting a beekeeping program late spring/early summer and is looking for volunteers interested in managing hives. If interested, please contact Laura McCarty at laura@deerfieldparks.org.
