Deerfield Park District Commissioners Anniversaries

Two Deerfield Park District Commissioners were recognized at the November 18, 2021 Deerfield Park District Board Meeting for their years of service anniversaries.

Jan Caron has been a Deerfield Park District Commissioner for 30 years. She began her first term determined to serve her community, listen to the needs of the residents and make a profound difference for the community. “When I joined the board, a new location for the “senior center” and a gym for sports for all ages were on the Park District’s wish list. Building the Patty Turner Center and acquiring the Sachs Recreation Center were seemingly unattainable dreams that actually came true after many years of work, planning and cooperation among several different groups. It is now difficult to imagine the Park District without these two facilities. These are only two examples of what vision and teamwork have brought to the Deerfield Park District during my 30 years.”

Joe Cohen was recognized for his 20 years as a commissioner. Joe shared, “My time with the Park District has been very enjoyable and meaningful to me. This has allowed me to give back to our community my thoughts and opinions on various matters whether good or bad. Many of the projects that I worked on were the acquisition of the former Multiplex now known as the Sachs Recreation Center, the construction of the Patty Turner Center, the renovation of Mitchell Pool and various improvements to the Deerfield Golf Course. I have had my hand in the redevelopment and planning of the various parks and playgrounds in Deerfield. The renaming of Mitchell Park to Floral Park has allowed the community to come together and heal the wounds from actions taken in the past. I have enjoyed working with all of the staff of the Park District and my many conversations with the residents of Deerfield.”

As is evident by the longevity represented by their anniversaries, both Jan and Joe have dedicated an enormous amount of time and talent to the Deerfield community. We are grateful for their involvement on our park board to help strengthen and further the park, recreation and conservation mission in Deerfield. When you see Jan and Joe, please help us celebrate by thanking them for their commitment to the residents of Deerfield!
