College / Post-Secondary Institution Scholarships announced by Park Foundation for 2013

In its inaugural year, 2012, the Deerfield Park Foundation offered and awarded one (1) $1,000 College/Post-Secondary Scholarship to the most qualified applicant meeting requirements to be used toward the 2012-2013 term. Callie Wilbat was the 2012 Linda Gryziecki Scholarship recipient. The Foundation announces, “For 2013, thanks to contributions from a number of donors to date, and to the generous support through funds raised at the Whole Foods Market Deerfield “5% Community Giving Day,” two (2) $1,000 Scholarships are being offered for 2013, to be used toward the 2013-2014 term.

Last year, more than two dozen highly qualified individuals submitted: application forms; resumes/listings of experiences and achievements; letters of recommendation; and official transcripts for the Deerfield Park Foundation’s first Linda Gryziecki Scholarship. Other criteria for applicants included: being a current or recent Deerfield Park District employee or volunteer (with a minimum of 25 hours in the preceding year period) and/or being a Deerfield Park District resident; submitting an essay; and more.

With a deadline this year of Friday, April 5, the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee is now in the process of accepting materials. The Linda Gryziecki Scholarship application form and related information may be found at www.deerfieldparkfoundation.org. The Foundation’s Scholarship Committee plans to review submitted materials later in April; interview qualified, selected candidates in May; and present awards at the Deerfield Park Foundation meeting set for Monday, May 20, 2013.

The Scholarship is named after Linda Gryziecki, retired Deerfield Park District Executive Director who retired in 2011 after serving the community for 38 years. Contributions toward the Scholarship Fund are accepted on an ongoing basis, with any additional funds earmarked for these Scholarships in the coming year(s).
